Altair Engineering, a U.S. based engineering company, recently acquired EM Software & Systems-S.A. based in Technopark which sees FEKO, the electromagnetic field analysis software now becoming part of HyperWorks. With this acquisition Altair will now have a local presence in the South African market, covering all sales and support activities in the region.
Altair Engineering’s HyperWorks is a computer aided engineering (CAE) simulations software platform that allows businesses to create superior, market-leading products efficiently and cost effectively. Apart from several modelling and visualization products HyperWorks offers analysis and optimization for structural analysis and light weight design, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multi-body system performance, manufacturing process simulations for metal and polymer extrusion, sheet metal forming simulation.
“The flexible software licensing model replaces traditional licensing plans with a pay-per-use system, which means that users can use multiple applications for a unit-based flat rate rather than paying for each license. This system leads to higher software utilisation, offering a higher ROI, which means companies can be more productive while reducing costs,” explains Gronum Smith, newly appointed Country Manager for Altair.
Apart from the products provided through the HyperWorks platform users also have access to a broad range of complementary software from third-parties through the Altair Partner Alliance. Software covering areas such as composite modelling, plastic injection moulding as well as project- and complexity management, durability, fatigue, noise, vibration and harshness are just some of the solutions available.
“We are excited to be venturing into the South African market with our HyperWorks products. As an emerging economy we are convinced that there will be many opportunities for business in the region. With an office now in South Africa we are able to establish a closer relationship with our customers, as well as offer local sales and technical support,” comments Dr. Detlef Schneider, Senior VP EMEA at Altair, who is in the country this week to attend the launch functions in Irene and Stellenbosch.
