Tokyo-based OMRON Corp. today announced the introduction of a global WiMAX band polymer antenna, the HAWK-WMX, for laptops, notebooks, tablet and ultra-mobile PCs.

The smaller antenna fits under the lid of notebook computers, enabling manufacturers to design smaller and lighter models.

The HAWK-WMX employs the high dielectric polymer material and precision molding technology used in Omron’s UWB antenna range. It measures 30 mm x 6.6 mm, and can deliver uniform RF performance across three global WiMAX bands (2.3-2.8 GHz, 3.3-3.8 GHz and 5.25-5.85 GHz). The antenna is WiMAX MIMO1 compliant, and with its global band attributes can also be used as a Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) MIMO antenna.
