As of September 1, 2006, Huber+Suhner will split Polymer Components, a business unit of the Fiber Optics + Cable Technology business sector, into two units. Plastic injection molding, which is seen as of growing importance as technology advances, will be integrated into the Radio Frequency Technology business sector, and become part of the core business. The Extrusion unit, producer of high-quality sensor and fire protection profiles, will continue as an independent business unit with its own new manager. Both activities, which generated sales of CHF 8 M each in 2005 and all 54 employees will remain at the Tiefe plant in Herisau, Switzerland.

This division is aimed at focusing each of the two units where they will be most effective. First, plastic injection molding technology is a Huber+Suhner core competence of increasing importance to new product development. Plastic components are essential parts of today’s radio frequency and fiber-optics connectors and antennae, and the company supplies both in-house and outside customers with high-tech injection moldings.

Restructured in recent years, the Extrusion unit is well positioned to supply highly innovative products. The business unit will operate independently, under its own, new management, and pursue its present strategy as before. Also, new perspectives are currently being considered.
