LTE equipment expenditure is expected to ramp up quickly in 2011. ABI Research estimates that LTE equipment spending will grow 120 percent in 2011 to reach almost $1 B. This increase is supported by more than 185 deployments and trials around the world.

Asia Pacific LTE Connections to Surpass 120 Million by 2015
The number of LTE connections in Asia Pacific will exceed 120 million by 2015, according to the latest data released by Wireless Intelligence. This aggressive growth will be spearheaded by China with the country expected to account for nearly half (57.9 million) of the total number of LTE connections in Asia Pacific during this period.

Agilent Introduces LTE-Advanced Signal Generation and Analysis Solutions

Agilent Technologies Inc. extended its leadership in LTE test with the introduction of dedicated LTE-Advanced signal generation and signal analysis solutions. Both solutions are being showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain (Hall 1, Stand A46).

Siklu Targets Europe with Mobile Wireless Backhaul Solution
Siklu is expanding its presence in Europe in response to a growing need among mobile operators to boost network capacity while minimizing costs. The company's EtherHaul Wireless backhaul solution allows mobile operators and service providers to tackle the shortage of bandwidth caused by the dramatic increase in the use of mobile apps commonly referred to as the 'iPhone effect'.

NEC and WRI Collaborate on LTE Infrastructure
Wuhan Research Institute of Post and Telecommunications (WRI) and NEC Corp. have announced an agreement to collaborate in the development, manufacturing, sales and field support of 3GPP compliant LTE wireless access systems.

ITU Selects Next-generation 4G Mobile Technologies
ITU's Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) has completed the assessment of six candidate submissions for the global 4G mobile wireless broadband technology, otherwise known as IMT-Advanced. Harmonization among these proposals has resulted in two technologies, LTE-Advanced and WirelessMAN-Advanced, being accorded the official designation of IMT-Advanced, qualifying them as true 4G technologies.

Agilent Technologies Inc. announced the industry's first commercially available 4G system design library for 3GPP Release 10 -- the W1918 LTE-Advanced library. The new system design library is available as an option to Agilent's SystemVue 2011.03 release software.

NEC Introduces iPASOLINK 400 Flexible Backhaul Solution
