 Keysight Technologies, Inc. announced membership in the Korea 5G Forum, a collaborative development environment for next–generation 5G wireless communication.  

Although I have heard a lot about NIWeek in previous years, this was my first time attending the event. It was like a mini-IMS but with a lot of fun displays and demos ranging from robots to UAVs to rockets. The science enabled by NI hardware and software is amazing and this conference attracts a huge community of thousands of engineers and scientists from around the world.  Agilent Technologies Inc. announced its 5G test summit with Future Mobile Communication Forum explored the status of next-generation 5G wireless communication systems. The June 24 forum in Beijing focused on the challenges test and measurement manufacturers face to support this rapidly evolving technology as well as the progress of research in the field. 

 Agilent Technologies Inc. announced an agreement to collaborate with China Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. Research Institute (CMRI) on the next–generation 5G wireless communication systems. China Mobile is the world’s largest mobile network operator and a market leader in 3G, 4G and next-generation wireless network development. 

An Anite-led task group within the METIS project has published the world’s first channel models for 5G.

Nutaq announced today a 5G Massive MIMO focused partnership with Dr Sebastien Roy at the Université de Sherbrooke. The collaboration with Professor Roy and his team will provide wireless developers wishing to exploit the “massive effect” with a reference design comprised of baseband array processing algorithms which can easily scale with the large number of channels required for Massive MIMO applications.

Georgios Sklivanitis and Emrecan Demirors with the Software Defined Networks (SDN) Lab in the Department of Electrical Engineering of the State University of New York at Buffalo have won Nutaq's 2014 Software Defined Radio Academic US Contest.

National Instruments(NI) is working with Nokia’s Networks business to collaborate on advanced research related to 5G wireless technologies such as exploring peak data rates and cell-edge rates in excess of 10 Gbps and 100 Mbps, respectively.

Co-organized by the NYU WIRELESS research center and Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN), the conference, planned to be an annual event from now on, brought together industry leaders from across academia, business and government to explore the future of Fifth Generation—more commonly called 5G—wireless technology.
