At the 5G Global Summit, held in Busan, South Korea, Rohde & Schwarz presented an extremely compact test setup for generating and analyzing signals up to 67 GHz that will enables users to evaluate potential new physical air interface technologies for future 5G networks.

Keysight Technologies, Inc. introduced the Keysight EEsof EDA 5G Baseband Exploration Library. Providing ready-to-use reference signal processing intellectual property (IP) for 5G technology research, this industry-first library dramatically increases productivity for system architects and baseband physical layer designers. 

Huawei and Etisalat jointly showcased the future concept of 5G mobile broadband services during the GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which was the first time 5G technology had been presented in the region.

CEA-Leti announced that a consortium of 15 leading telecommunications operators, vendors, research centers and academic institutions have launched “MiWaveS” (Millimeter-Wave Small Cell Access and Backhauling), a European collaborative project whose goal is to develop millimeter-wave (mmW) key radio technologies to provide multi-Gbps data rates to future 5G cellular mobile networks users. 

 DragonWave Inc., a leading global supplier of packet microwave radio systems for mobile and access networks, announced the completion of a series of extensive outdoor small cell backhaul propagation tests that have been conducted with a third party for street level characterization.  

 Keysight Technologies, Inc. announced membership in the Korea 5G Forum, a collaborative development environment for next–generation 5G wireless communication.  

Although I have heard a lot about NIWeek in previous years, this was my first time attending the event. It was like a mini-IMS but with a lot of fun displays and demos ranging from robots to UAVs to rockets. The science enabled by NI hardware and software is amazing and this conference attracts a huge community of thousands of engineers and scientists from around the world.  Agilent Technologies Inc. announced its 5G test summit with Future Mobile Communication Forum explored the status of next-generation 5G wireless communication systems. The June 24 forum in Beijing focused on the challenges test and measurement manufacturers face to support this rapidly evolving technology as well as the progress of research in the field. 

 Agilent Technologies Inc. announced an agreement to collaborate with China Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. Research Institute (CMRI) on the next–generation 5G wireless communication systems. China Mobile is the world’s largest mobile network operator and a market leader in 3G, 4G and next-generation wireless network development. 

An Anite-led task group within the METIS project has published the world’s first channel models for 5G.
