AntennaWare, specialists in antennas for difficult platforms including on-body and on-metal applications, has announced new products for sub-GHz and Wi-Fi 6E to complement their existing DECT, Bluetooth and UWB Bodywave™ antennas.
The sub-GHz Bodywave antenna (sub-GHz BodyWave™/Omni-Wave™ Embedded Antenna or sub-GHz BodyWave/Omni-Wave External Antenna) is designed to address the license-exempt industrial, scientific and medical bands between 868 and 915 MHz. The Bodywave antennas are based on patented technology and can improve link margins from 6 to 12 dB in non-line-of-sight, which results in a material increase in range and / or a significant reduction in power i.e. "Double the distance, half the power."
The sub-GHz Bodywave™ will be released both as an embedded antenna and as a compact low-profile external antenna. As a stand-alone product it can be easily swapped with existing intrusive and protruding monopole and folded dipole antennas, whilst maintaining the consistent omnidirectional radiation pattern normally associated with monopole antennas. In short, AntennaWare's sub-GHz Bodywave™ is a low-profile, easy replacement for intrusive monopoles without any performance impact.
The Wi-Fi 6E Bodywave™ antenna is designed for 6 GHz and addresses the highly detrimental effects of body-blocking or body-shadowing. Due to the ongoing insatiable appetite of data from Telco's, cell phone manufacturers and content providers, the wireless industry is being forced upwards to access more frequency spectrum. Higher frequencies suffer exceptionally badly when used in on-body or on-metal applications and result in a sub-optimal experience. Use cases wishing to operate at higher frequencies can be restricted to non-real-time data gathering, reduced accuracy of location, marginal communication of body-metrics and other vital information required for life or mission critical applications. Wi-Fi 6E Bodywave solves this problem and unlocks access to higher frequency spectrum.
