Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), a global designer and manufacturer of cable, antenna and tower systems providing total-package solutions for wireless and broadcast infrastructure, has appointed Herbert Merz as the new RFS’ President and Chief Executive Officer. Merz will assume global leadership responsibilities effective immediately. Herbert Merz brings a deep level of business knowledge with 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.

Herbert Merz began his career in a bio-tech startup before joining Siemens where he spent 10 years in top management consulting. He joined the telecommunications industry in 2001 as Chief Financial Officer of Siemens’ Mobile Radio business unit. Following the merger with Nokia Networks in 2007, he was nominated Head of Operations of NSN and became a member of the NSN Executive Board. 

Between 2011 and 2015, he led the Optical Networks Business of NSN as CEO. He played a vital role in the shift of the business into profitability and growth as well as in the carve-out and sale of the business as an independent company to a new Private Equity owner in 2013. He continued to run the Coriant business successfully until 2015.

Herbert Merz graduated from the Technical University of Munich with a Master’s degree in both Electrical Engineering and Business Administration.
