Antenova Ltd., manufacturer of antennas and RF antenna modules for M2M and the Internet of Things, announces two more antennas for the 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wireless standard. These antennas are designed for the profusion of high bandwidth applications emerging in the consumer entertainment sector — specifically set-top boxes, IPTV and content streaming devices— all of which are seeing strong growth, in parallel with the roll-out of fibre to the home and the increase of IPTV services.

As content streaming and video-on-demand push consumers’ Wi-Fi networks to their limits, manufacturers are moving up to the 5GHz spectrum, which offers the benefits of a less crowded frequency, less interference, fewer disconnects and signals as fast as 1Gbps.

Antenova has developed two new SMD antennas for this market – specifically for smart TVs, wearable electronics, access points, portable devices, PC cards, internet-connected set-top boxes, network devices and consumer MIMO applications.

The first antenna, Sharpi, (part no. SRC5G027) is an ultra-compact ceramic antenna solution for 5GHz, measuring just 1.0mm x 0.5mm x 0.5mm. The second antenna, Trogona (part no. SR42W009) is manufactured from FR4 materials, and is a dual-band antenna operating in both Wi-Fi bands, 2.4 - 2.5GHz and 5.17 - 5.84 GHz. Trogona works over a ground plane with no clearance, and is also ideal for gaming consoles and IP cameras.

Both antennas are designed for integration and maintain good performance when placed within a device. They are easy to integrate into a PCB layout using Antenova’s guidance on positioning, and the company also offers antenna matching and testing services if and when they are required.

Said Antenova’s CEO Colin Newman. “The 5GHz spectrum will give consumers a better user experience, with more bandwidth, more robust wireless signals, better reach and less interference from other devices using 2.4GHz, and a lot of manufacturers have requirements for compact antennas. We developed Sharpi and Trogona in response to our customers who have been asking for small SMD antennas that meet the 802.11/ac standard.”

The Sharpi and Trogona antennas are ready to ship, and Antenova has samples and evaluation boards available. For more details, please see www.antenova-m2m.com
