Instec LLC, a designer and manufacturer of electromagnetic interference filters and radio frequency interference filters, and an affiliate of Gowanda Holdings, announces it has successfully manufactured and upscreened an EMI feed-through filter to meet the United States Department of Defense specification MIL-PRF-28861.

The bolt style, resin sealed, C-circuit filter from the company’s 640 Series will now be used for a US government space program where it will help suppress electromagnetic interference, which would otherwise interfere with the performance of electronic circuitry.

The specific part number is Instec 640-102CN. Performance includes Capacitance of 1000 pF minimum, DC Voltage Rating of 100 V and Current Rating of 5 A DC. Typical Insertion Loss is 8 dB at 10 MHz, 25 dB at 100 MHz and 40 dB at both 1 GHz and 10 GHz. The Operating Temperature Range is -55°C to +125°C. This part is thread type 8-32 and consists of a silver-plated brass case and silver-plated copper nail head lead.

A technical datasheet for this part is accessible within the announcement posted at the company website news page: http://instec-filters.com/instec-filters-news.

The mil-spec qualification of this part required rigorous testing of electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. Testing was performed at Gowanda’s in-house environmental lab. This lab is Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime approved (in support of internal product qualifications).

Instec welcomes inquiries regarding the upscreening of additional filters for applications in defense, military and space communities. The company also supports custom designs with extensive experience, proprietary manufacturing equipment, prototyping capabilities and testing facilities.
