Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, announced the availability of a new RF X-TREME basestation antenna designed for the 700 MHz spectrum. Available in a true 4 ft or 6 ft antenna length, the multi-band antenna provides high-performance triple-band capability in a compact dual-band package.

The RF X-TREME basestation antenna platform provides the highest gain and cross polar discrimination combined with the best vertical pattern control of any triple band antenna of its size in the industry, enabling more capacity and better throughput. With RF X-TREME, RFS provides the capacity of three full band antennas by orienting them side by side to achieve high gain and optimal performance in a single package.

RF X-TREME basestation antennas are an ideal choice for site upgrades and new deployments where three frequency bands are used to add capacity or increase coverage.  Support for LTE 700 and MIMO 4xRx diversity makes the platform a particularly good choice for the many current or proposed LTE sites throughout Canada.

4xRX diversity allows the radio more options to pick up the strongest signal, and is currently being used in LTE network designs from top North American operators with an Rx signal improvement of 3-5dB. RF X-TREME provides full-band coverage on every port to enable operators to implement 4xRx diversity and 4xMIMO on any of the higher frequency bands, providing excellent cell-edge performance with 30 percent fewer base stations.

“As dual-band antennas do not offer enough capacity to support customers’ increasing data demands, and adding an additional antenna presents a problem with site designs and lease costs, RF X-TREME allows customers to transition from dual band to triple band antennas without compromise,” said Tom Nowik, area product manager, Radio Frequency Systems. “Furthermore, as many sites are being upgraded to support the 700 MHz spectrum and 4xRx diversity, RF X-TREME provides the exact solution needed to perform these critical upgrades with minimal impact.”

“As smartphone market penetration continues to progress in Canada, high capacity and high throughput technologies like MIMO are increasingly required and must be supported through the installation of equipment both now and in the future,” said Richard Cadieux, business development manager, Novapex Technologies Inc. “Having the same equipment perform provisioning for all current and even future frequency bands will enable flexible support for a multitude of coverage and capacity strategies for years to come.”

The RF X-TREME platform is also designed for low wind-load to minimize tower loading. RF X-TREME supports multiple bands, including LTE 700, CDMA 850, PCS 1900 and AWS 2100 with no compromises in electrical performance. All RF X-TREME products are 100% tested for PIM, isolation and VSWR prior to shipment for high call quality and a reduced number of dropped calls.

As a global supplier with facilities around the world, RFS has the capacity and breadth to deliver and service all of its products, for customers of all sizes, in all regions.
