Echodyne Announces First Successful Airborne Detect and Avoid Radar Test on a Small Drone

Echodyne Corp. announced the first ever successful test of an airborne Detect and Avoid (DAA) radar on a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (sUAV).  Echodyne’s radar was mounted on a small commercial drone which flew multiple missions below 400’ over a period of several days. The drone was of a size, payload, and range well suited for package delivery, infrastructure inspection and agricultural monitoring.

NV selected as UAV development center

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that Nevada has been selected as one of six locations to be a center for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) development in the United States. As a UAV development site, the most likely economic forecast shows that there could be thousands of jobs for UAS direct employees with an average wage of approximately $62,000; an estimated $2.5 billion in economic impact in present dollars; and an estimated $125 million in annual state and local tax revenue.

L-3 and Lemko Corp.  flew an ultra-light airborne 4G LTE SwarmNetwork for tactical air to ground broadband communications. The X5 aerial demonstration proved that the same high-speed data infrastructure available in fixed mounted or dismounted configurations on the ground can be further supported from the air. Lemko's solution surpasses traditional LTE coverage bubbles by the ODC SwarmNetwork providing an ad-hoc LTE network with roaming, hand-off and survivability between nodes.

Raytheon AI3 intercepts its first UAS target

In a first-of-its-kind test for Raytheon Co.'s Accelerated Improved Intercept Initiative system, AI3 destroyed an unmanned aerial system (UAS) in flight. The intercept was part of the second guided test flights for the AI3 program and follows its first in-flight defeat of a 107mm rocket earlier in the test series.

Silvus announces new contract under DARPA 100 Gb/s RF Backbone program

Silvus Technologies Inc. has been awarded a contract under DARPA STO’s 100 Gb/s RF Backbone (100G) program. The total dollar value of this 20 month Phase I contract is approximately $3.7 M. As a final deliverable of this Phase I contract Silvus is to demonstrate a MIMO system capable of multiplexing 8 independent streams each carrying 1 Gbps data over a line of sight wireless range above 50 km.
