LTE subscriber base to grow to 1.4 billion globally by year-end 2015

ABI Research estimates that there will be nearly 1.37 billion 4G LTE subscribers worldwide by year-end 2015, up from nearly 650 million in 2014. ABI Research forecasts that the LTE subscriber base will exceed 3.5 billion by 2020, demonstrating a 5 year CAGR of 20.8%. The exponential rise in LTE points-of-presence covered justifies the need for sustained investment in LTE infrastructure, which is expected to grow nearly 10% year-on-year.

RFID market grows 17% in one year to $9.2B

New research conducted by IDTechEx, and published in the report "RFID Forecasts, Players and Opportunities 2014-2024," finds that the RFID market - including tags, readers, software and services, for passive and active RFID - will grow from $7.88 billion in 2013 to $9.2 billion in 2014. Most growth is due to active RFID/RTLS systems, interrogators, and then tags, in terms of total money spent.

NFC will come out of the trial phase in 2013 as 285 M enabled devices are expected to be shipped

ABI Research forecasts that a total of 1.95 billion NFC-enabled devices will ship in 2017 — a combination of both handsets and CE Devices. The lion’s share of NFC enablement will continue to be focused in the handset market, although we are expecting a surge of NFC functionality included within CE devices, for simple pairing of devices, exchange of data, and online authentication functionality. In total, 395 million CE devices will ship in 2017, predominantly into media tablets, PC accessories, and gaming consoles.
