Molex Inc. announced that it will showcase its multi-port SSMCX in an eight position coaxial connector block on 3.00 mm pitch at the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium in Booth 844. The SSMCX multi-port system is designed for cable-to-board applications and comes in four- and eight-port options.

Molex incorporated a positive latch as well as holes in the PCB side that accommodate solder pins for added stability. The PCB connector is available in right angle or vertical and in SMT or through hole configurations.

Additional features include:

• For medical applications, the SSMCX coaxial contacts are available in non-magnetic materials.
• For high speed test applications, a version of the block without the positive latch is available. This allows the connectors to be quickly mated and unmated. The cable contacts are available for very small 0.80 mm coax up to RG178 size.
• For higher frequency applications, semi-rigid compatible contacts are available in up to RG405 (0.086” diameter) cables.

The Molex SSMCX connector was developed for small radio and antenna applications where size and a higher frequency response are critical. SSMCX connectors were first used in an 802.11x radio and antenna for a notebook computer. The cable connectors are available as assemblies or un-assembled for customer assembly. Straight versions operate up to 10 GHz. Because of its smaller size (∼30 percent), the SSMCX is a good replacement for MMCX.
