Aerospace BD announced the appointment of Richard L. Powers of Wakefield, N.H., as its chief technology officer (CTO). His first action in this new role will be published in the September Microwave Journal Military Supplement discussing “Countering High Frequency Surface Wave Radar.”

Powers considers himself privileged to have the opportunity to support the warfighter, working with brilliant and dedicated industrial and government colleagues over the past 47 years. He earned his BSEE from the University of Lowell in 1978 and MSEE from Northeastern University in 1984. He joined Sanders Associates in Nashua, N.H., in 1978 as an antenna and microwave engineer. Subsequently, for Sanders and its successor companies, he served in various roles including as an EW systems engineer, program manager, proposal capture leader, business development director, advanced systems and technology vice president, SIGINT and ISR technology director, electronic combat technical director and model-based systems engineering director. He retired from BAE Systems in 2021 and then led the L3-Harris Ground Electronic Warfare business until retirement in 2023.

In 2002 Powers was inducted into the Association of Old Crows (AOC) Technology Hall of Fame. He has published papers on antennas and HF radar and has three antenna patents. He had the distinct opportunity to work in a variety of technologies and systems spanning from acoustic to UV, and helped pioneer EW for low observable aircraft in the early 1980s. He and his wife Jackie are enjoying semi-retirement in the lakes region of New Hampshire and coastal Maine
