5G Open Innovation Lab (5G OI Lab) announced its Batch 9 cohort, eleven startups carefully curated from around the globe to embark on 5G OI Lab’s Spring program.
Now in its fifth year, 5G OI Lab has built a thriving ecosystem of 129 startups supported by world-class partners including AT&T, Comcast, Microsoft, Intel, VMware by Broadcom and more. Combined, the Lab’s alumni have raised over $2.23B in venture capital, representing the largest standalone ecosystem in the realm of 5G and Edge technology, solidifying its position as a premier destination for innovation and technological advancement.
This year also marks a key milestone in the Lab’s evolution from an innovation engine to CSP monetizing of edge computing through a business ecosystem for partners and startups, as evidenced by the recent deployment of a private 5G network at the Tacoma Tideflats, a project directed by 5G OI Lab and Washington Maritime Blue with the support of Lab partners Comcast, Dell Technologies, VMware by Broadcom, Intel, Expeto, Ericsson and others.
“We are now focused on deepening our relationships with communication service providers, global solution providers and enterprises. The industry is at an inflection point and there is growing recognition that 5G is far more than a communication backbone. It can transform connectivity into a value-delivery platform powered by edge computing. And as evidenced at Tacoma Tideflats, our robust software ecosystem can be tapped to solve real business challenges in new and exciting ways,” says Jim Brisimitzis, Founder and General Partner of the 5G Open Innovation Lab.
