As the fast-emerging Internet of Things (IoT) continues to gain momentum, the demand for reliable low cost wireless data modules increases every day. In response to this demand, Linx Technologies is pleased to announce the release of the low cost 900MHz HumPRO™ Series wireless data transceiver module. Available in 900 MHz, the HumPRO™ 900 MHz version outputs up to 10 dBm. This results in a line-of-sight range of up to 1600m (1.0 mile). Other sub-1 GHz frequencies will be added in the near future.
Low Cost Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum
The HumPRO™ Series is a frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) transceiver designed for the reliable transfer of digital data. Built on the Linx Hummingbird platform, the module is below $10 in volume and is designed for emerging IoT applications where cost is an important driver to adoption. "The ubiquity of low cost internet connections and development of internet gateway technology on slim hardware are driving the adoption of the Internet of Things. The cost of the wireless connection from the gateway is a growing concern in IoT implementation, especially in sub-1GHz applications. At under $10 with FHSS, the HumPRO™ is the most cost effective wireless solution with a robust connection of over 800 meters in range," said Tolga Latif, president & CEO of Linx Technologies.
Fast Locking Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum
The wireless data module employs a fast-locking FHSS system for noise immunity and higher transmitter output power as allowed by government regulations. The fast-locking module also allows the module to wake up, send data, and go to sleep quickly, making it an excellent solution for battery powered applications. It handles all protocol functions automatically and has options for acknowledgements, Listen Before Talk (LBT) and assured delivery. Multiple hopping patterns enable multiple systems to operate in proximity without interference.
All modules have a unique 32-bit serial number that can be used as an address. Multiple addressing modes gives the options for 16 or 32 bit source and destination addressing. The addressing methods support point-to-point and broadcast links. Address masking by the receiving module allows for creating subnets. More advanced network methods can also be implemented with an external microcontroller.
Standard UART Interface
A standard UART interface is used for module configuration and data transfer. A few simple serial commands are all that are needed for configuration. This is suitable for direct connection to UARTs on many microcontrollers, USB converters and RS-232 converters.
Internet of Things Made Simple™
Along with low cost being a key design feature, the Hummingbird Series modules were designed for ease of use. Focusing on a core Linx value, the HumPRO™ Series wireless data module is designed for simplicity, compared to other designs that add unnecessary features, complexity and cost to their design. Housed in a tiny compact reflow-compatible SMD package, the transceiver requires no external RF components except an antenna, which greatly simplifies integration and lowers assembly costs. "This new low cost, power-efficient, wireless data module is the answer to providing companies with what they specifically need. By building on the Hummingbird platform and focusing on low cost, frequency hopping peer-to-peer connections, the HumPRO™ achieves unmatched cost and refreshing simplicity. The HumPRO™ wireless data module is the most cost effective way today to connect, monitor and control wireless systems." says Kris Lafko, VP of marketing & sales at Linx Technologies.
Best in Class Master Development Kits
To aid rapid development, the HumPRO™ Series transceiver is available as part of a newly conceived type of Master Development System. This comprehensive development kit is designed to assist in the rapid evaluation and integration of the HumPRO™ Series data transceiver modules. The all-inclusive system features several pre-assembled evaluation boards, which include everything needed to quickly test the operation of the transceiver modules.
