Keysight Technologies, Inc. announced sponsorship of the B4G MIMO Lab, part of National Taiwan University’s (NTU) High-Speed Radio Frequency and mmWave Center. Keysight also announced that is has joined the B4G/5G Technology Forum. The lab is one of the projects at the center aiming to develop key components used in Beyond 4G and 5G mobile communication systems.

With 5G becoming a critical component for addressing the increasing mobile internet usage, the Taiwan government is supporting academia to develop future technologies. The Taiwan government has called upon NTU, a top ranked university, to 1) set up the High-Speed Radio Frequency and mmWave Center, 2) perform advanced research and 3) further assist the local industries. Keysight donated a 4x4 MIMO measurement system the center to develop the key components used in next-generation communication system, such as CMOS-based MMIC’s, LTCC-based SiP, smart antenna and PA front-end modules. Several local industrial companies have agreed to commercialize the developed technologies.

The B4G/5G Technology Forum was held on the same day as the center’s grand opening. Keysight and other industrial partners delivered presentations on a variety of 5G related topics and solutions. Keysight’s test solutions included:

  • 5G design and simulation environment.
  • Power Amplifier Reference Solution with envelope tracking and digital pre-distortion.
  •  4x4 MIMO measurement system.
  • Multi-antenna Calibration Reference Solution for phased-array antennas.
  • E-Band signal generation and analysis system.

“I am very pleased to have the donation of B4G MIMO measurement equipment from Keysight for our research,” said Prof Tzong-Lin Wu, chairman, Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering, NTU and the center chair. “Keysight has the most complete solutions and experiences including EDA tools and measurement environment to help speed up our work from design to test and verify our prototypes.”

“We are very pleased that National Taiwan University has selected Keysight’s modular-based MIMO solution to meet their next generation wireless test challenges,” said Mario Narduzzi, Keysight Modular Solutions Marketing Manager. “We believe our solution provides the most accurate and flexible architecture allowing NTU to meet their needs today and in the future.”

“The collaboration with NTU on 5G is an important next step,” said Allen Chang, Keysight Taiwan general manager. “We have the core measurement science and NTU is highly acclaimed for its talent and advanced research. This joint effort will help speed up the next-generation technology development.” Images are available at

Located in Taiwan’s capital city of Taipei, National Taiwan University (NTU) is the most prestigious university in Taiwan. It was established in 1928 and was then known asTaihoku Imperial University. After World War II, the university was reorganized and gained its current name, NTU in 1945.

Today, NTU has 11 colleges, 54 departments, 103 graduate institutes and about 30 university-level research centers. The total number of students has grown to over 33,000, including over 18,000 university students and 15,000 graduate students. The number of graduate students at NTU almost equals the number of university students, which indicates that NTU has successfully been transformed into a research university. NTU prides itself on academic excellence and world-class standards. In 2014, NTU was ranked 76th in the QS World University Rankings. Even more impressive, Subject of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was ranked 20th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
