PeregrinePE42520-21-PRPhotoRichardson RFPD, Inc. announces immediate availability and full design support capabilities for two new RF single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) switches from Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation (Peregrine).

The new switches operate from 9 kHz to 13 GHz and feature high power handling, making them ideally-suited for a range of high frequency wideband applications, including test and measurement, automatic test equipment (ATE), wireless backhaul, and aerospace and defense. The PE42520 and PE42521 are pin-compatible upgraded versions of the PE42552, with higher power handling, fast settling time and switching time, and high isolation. Both devices are offered in 3x3 mm QFN packages.

Key features of the PE42520 include:

  •          High power handling @ 8 GHz in 50Ω

o   36 dBm CW

o   38 dBm instantaneous power

o   26 dBm terminated port

  •          High linearity: 66 dBm IIP3
  •          Low insertion loss

o   0.8 dB @ 3 GHz

o   0.9 dB @ 10 GHz

o   2.0 dB @ 13 GHz

  •          High isolation

o   45 dB @ 3 GHz

o   31 dB @ 10 GHz

o   18 dB @ 13 GHz

Key features of the PE42521 include:

  •          High power handling @ 4 GHz in 50Ω

o   36 dBm CW

o   38.5 dBm instantaneous power

o   26 dBm terminated port

  •          Fast switching time: 500 ns
  •          High linearity: 65 dBm IIP3
  •          Low insertion loss

o   0.75 dB @ 3 GHz

o   1.15 dB @ 10 GHz

o   1.85 dB @ 13 GHz

  •          High isolation

o   44 dB @ 3 GHz

o   30 dB @ 10 GHz

o   17 dB @ 13 GHz

The new switches are manufactured on Peregrine's UltraCMOS process, a patented variation of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology on a sapphire substrate, offering the performance of GaAs with the economy and integration of conventional CMOS. Peregrine’s HaRP technology enhancements enable fast settling time, no gate or phase lag, and no drift in insertion loss and phase.
