7 layers AG and TTPCom Communications plc have announced the sale of their joint venture – 7 layers UK – to SGS UK Ltd. The two companies have each owned 50 percent of the joint venture company since the laboratory was set up in Cambridge, UK, in 2001. TTP Communications plc, which has recently been acquired by Motorola, and is now known as Motorola TTPCom Product Group, and 7 layers AG have both agreed to sell 100 percent of their shareholding to SGS UK Ltd. This is subject to the approval of the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt), which is expected in the next two to four weeks.

7 layers UK offers expert third party test services for designers and manufacturers of wireless communication products including GSM, GPRS, Bluetooth, EDGE, AMR, UMTS, 3G products and modules. The company generated revenues in excess of £6 M in its fiscal year ended March 31, 2006. The acquisition sees SGS become one of the largest European GSM testing companies and is another step in its strategic plan to become the global leader in GSM testing.

As for 7 layers Group, the additional assets arising from the sale will bring the company into a position to speed up the development of its services and fulfill plans to further expand its innovative, progressive services for the future benefit of clients. The company is continually striving to satisfy the demand of the mobile communications industry and recently established the Rapid Response Network, which is a virtual global test laboratory combined with InterLab® Web Access.
