Vishay Precision Group Inc. unveiled a new demonstration video that shows the actual process by which the company's Vishay Foil Resistors (VFR) brand is able to ship samples of Bulk Metal® Foil precision resistors within any resistance value within a 0.01% tolerance within one to five days.

The demonstration replicates on a small scale the same process that takes place in VFR Precision Centers. For demonstration purposes duplicating real-life prototyping challenges, Richard Zuratt, senior development engineer at VPG, uses a micro version of a Precision Center to trim a VSMP1206 resistor to an arbitrarily chosen unique resistance of 9.8765 kΩ within a 0.01% tolerance in just a few minutes.

VFR-authorized Precision Centers, with several global locations, provide fast delivery of small quantities of Bulk Metal Foil resistors with any value/tolerance combination. Shipping small quantities in five days or less, VFR Precision Centers trim each resistor to the precise value ordered, giving the designers the exact resistor they need in the shortest time possible.

"The design-in process is becoming much shorter as expectations for speed to market are becoming more and more demanding," said Yuval Hernik, senior director of application engineering for Vishay Foil Resistors. "Equipment must be designed and its performance checked very quickly. Should there be a second round of resistor selection, the Vishay Precision Center concept is the ideal solution for small prototype runs and quick changes prior to full production."

Resistors supplied through VFR Precision Centers deliver all the capabilities and characteristics of Bulk Metal Foil technology. Featuring a TCR of ±0.05 ppm/°C and load-life stability of ±0.005% (50 ppm), the devices can go immediately into the full range of load-life and environmental evaluation processes. The service is provided through a network of globally distributed Precision Centers for easy access and local availability.
