Hittite Microwave Corporation, the world class supplier of complete MMIC based solutions for communication & military markets, announces two new additions to its variable gain amplifiers (VGA) product line. These innovative variable gain amplifiers are an ideal choice for use in cellular infrastructure, test and measurement or military radio systems where an accurate signal level control and high linearity is required. The HMC640LP5E is a GaAs MMIC analog variable gain amplifier that delivers a gain control range of 40dB and an output 1 dB compression point of +23dBm. Its consistent output third order intercept point of +40 dBm makes the HMC640LP5E a popular choice within many transceivers that operate within the 0.4 to 3 GHz frequency range. The HMC640LP5E provides the user the flexibility of choosing 20dB or 40dB of dynamic range depending on the users requirement. In addition it is possible to deploy the HMC640LPLE within a closed loop circuit topology for continuous gain control. Alternatively the HMC628LP4E is a 1 dB LSB GaAs MMIC 5-Bit digital variable gain amplifier that delivers a selectable gain range of 23dB and an output 1 dB compression point of +19.5dBm. The HMC628LP5E gain accuracy is an impressive +/- 0.05dB below 250MHz and +/- 0.4dB up to 800MHz. The maximum gain achieved is 14 dB with a noise figure contribution of only 5dB. The HMC628LP5E incorporates a dual mode interface that is CMOS/TLL compatible and accepts either 3-wire serial input or a 5 bit parallel word. The HMC628LP4E also features a user selectable power up state and a serial output port for cascading other Hittite serial controlled components. The HMC640LP5E is conveniently housed in a 5x5 mm RoHS compliant QFN leadless package and requires no external matching components. The HMC628LP4E is housed in a 4x4 mm RoHS compliant QFN leadless package and is available in three different evaluation board configurations depending on the application frequency. Both parts are specified for operation over -40°C to +85°C. Samples are available from stock and can be ordered via the company’s e-commerce site or via direct purchase order.
