With the "Dog Days of Summer" upon us and the end of Summer in sight, it is time to turn our thoughts to back-to-school plans, for those of us with school age kids. For microwave professionals, there are numerous conferences on the Fall schedule for our educational benefit. At MWJ, we are deep into planning for the annual European Microwave Week, which takes places in Manchester, UK on October 9th to 14th. This event features three distinct yet complimentary conferences with the Integrated Circuit (EuMIC), Microwave (EuMC) and Radar (EuRAD) conferences. In addition, MWJ along with EuMA, have organized a one day conference focused on Defence and Security.

The 2011 Defence and Security Forum will take place on Wednesday, October 12th. The morning sessions will focus on the "Safety and Security" track, followed by a "Lunch and Learn" hosted by Strategy Analytics. The afternoon sessions will focus on the challenges and solutions of modern radar and EW systems with a panel session featuring industry experts. The event wraps-up with the popular "Executive Forum" and networking reception. Sponsors of this event include Agilent, Rohde & Schwarz, RFMD and Triquint. There are still a very limited number of sponsorships remaining, so contact your MWJ sales representative if you would like more information.

The September issue of MWJ serves as the EuMW show issue again this year. This issue provides readers with a snapshot look at the conference and exhibition along with the usual assortment of technical features, news, products and analysis. For advertisers, it provides bonus distribution in the delegate bags and on the exhibition floor for added exposure. The deadline to book ad space is August 15th.

I will be attending the IEEE EMC event, along with Editor Pat Hindle next week. In addition to EuMW in October, MWJ staffers can be found at the COMSOL conference (Boston), AMTA (Denver) and 4G World (Chicago). We look forward to seeing you in class.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer.

Best,

Carl Sheffres
