Cobham plc has acquired the entire share capital of Axell Wireless Ltd. for a total consideration of up to £85 million.

Cobham’s Brazilian subsidiary has secured its first major contract in Brazil to equip State Police helicopters with high definition (HD) video surveillance downlinks which will be used on helicopters in 12 cities during the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup. The contract was developed with a local integration partner following the opening of the Cobham’s Sao Paulo office in August 2012 and includes both airborne and ground based equipment.

Cobham has been awarded a £16M order to supply NATO forces with leading-edge vehicle mounted Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection equipment. 

Cobham has been awarded a $31.7 million contract from the U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to manufacture the AN/ALQ-99 Low Band Transmitter-Antenna Group for Navy and Marine Corps EA-6B and EA-18G electronic warfare aircraft. The contract funds the sixth full-rate production lot, and includes the first installment of two-part procurement for a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to undisclosed customers.

Cobham has reached agreement with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service to extend the existing Sentinel aerial maritime surveillance contract by 2 years. This £105M contract extension secures the contract until the end of 2021.

Cobham plc has established a new strategic business unit (SBU) – Cobham SATCOM – that combines all of the Group’s satellite communications businesses into one organisation, following the successful acquisition and integration of Danish satcom company Thrane & Thrane earlier this year. Thrane & Thrane will trade as Cobham SATCOM from November 2012, and will form the core of the new SBU.

The MBA6-3.5DS45/2045 Multi-beam Hub Base Station Antenna has been developed by Cobham Antenna Systems, Microwave Antennas to enable MIMO radio system operators to meet their goal of 1 Gbps/km² anywhere within a cell.

Cobham Aerospace Communications has been selected to provide the audio/radio communications package for the Korean National Police Agency’s (KNPA) new Surion utility helicopter.

Cobham has been awarded orders totaling more than £13.8 million during the second quarter of 2012 to supply European customers with hand-held Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection equipment incorporating the group’s leading-edge Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems.

Cobham has been awarded a $65 million contract to supply electronic systems to Boeing’s Wideband Global SATCOM satellite program. The contract funds production on three satellite flight sets, with additional options for three more sets.
