Chicago, IL (WiMAX World) September 26, 2007 Rohde & Schwarz today introduced the R&S FSG spectrum analyzer that combines class-leading RF performance from 9 kHz to 8 or 13.6 GHz with one-button selection of standards-compliant measurements for all wireless standards including fixed and mobile WiMAX. It is an excellent choice for analysis of digitally-modulated signals in development, production, and product verification environments. The R&S FSG is available in two models the R&S FSG8 (9 kHz to 8 GHz) and the FSG13 (9 kHz to 13.6 GHz), both based on the proven Windows XP-based architecture of the companys high-performance R&S FSQ spectrum analyzer family. The R&S FSG allows the user to make measurements compliant with GSM, WCDMA, CDMA20001xRTT, TD-SCDMA, HSPA, Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11a/b/g, and fixed and mobile WiMAX at the press of a button. The R&S FSG has a wide demodulation bandwidth of 28MHz, which makes it well suited for evaluation of components and equipment designed for the Long Term Evolution (LTE) enhancement to the UMTS network as well. The instrument has an I/Q memory of 4 Msamples, which allows it to capture 25 consecutive frames in WCDMA, and hardware resamplers that allow data to be sampled at user-defined rates. RF performance includes a dynamic range of 170 dB from the instruments 1-dB compression point to its displayed average noise level of -145 dBm (10 Hz). Phase noise at a 640 MHz carrier frequency is -120 dBc/Hz (10 kHz offset) and -138 dBc/Hz (1 MHz offset), RF output is +25 dBm, 1-dB-compression point is +13 dBm, 3GPP ACLR is 77 dBc and 84 dBc with noise correction enabled, level uncertainty is 0.3 to 3.6 GHz, and linearity error is less than 0.1 dB. Error Vector Modulation (EVM) is an exceptional 0.7% or less. The R&S FSG employs the same command set for remote operation as all spectrum analyzers from Rohde & Schwarz, so owners of these instruments can integrate the new spectrum analyzer into their test environments without additional programming. The R&S FSG provides GPIB, 10/100BaseT Ethernet, and USB 2.0 interfaces, and is compatible with LXI Class C. The companys R&S NRP Series power sensors can also be connected directly to the R&S FSG for accurate determination of absolute signal powers. Two front-panel USB 2.0 ports allow data and measurement routines to be easily imported and exported. Options for the R&S FSG include an AM/FM/PM demodulator, noise figure and phase noise measurement capabilities, a digital variable attenuator, and a preamplifier. The R&S FSG spectrum analyzer is available now from Rohde & Schwarz.
