At its upcoming meeting on September 26, the FCC plans to consider and presumably approve a public notice defining the proposed rules for auctioning licenses in the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) band, which covers 3550 to 3700 MHz.

The auction, designated 105 and scheduled to begin on June 25, 2020, will provide much needed mid-band spectrum for 5G.

The CBRS band includes licenses designated as Priority Access Licenses (PAL), which are between 3550 and 3650 MHz. The FCC proposes to auction seven PALs in each county-based license area, yielding 22,631 PALs across the country. Each PAL will be for a 10 MHz unpaired channel, with bidders allowed to aggregate up to four PALs in a license area, netting 40 MHz spectrum.

The FCC will grant the licenses for 10 years and allow licensees to renew.
