Industry Chat: Earl Lum on Verizon 5G, Sprint/T-Mobile, Huawei and IMS2019

June 22, 2019

Near the conclusion of this year’s International Microwave Symposium in Boston (#IMS2019), Earl Lum and I sat down to compare notes about the wireless industry and what caught our attention at #IMS2019.

We covered a lot of ground in just 20 minutes:

  • Earl still isn’t impressed with Verizon’s 5G deployment.
  • On the Sprint/T-Mobile deal, does the U.S. really need four nationwide wireless operators?
  • The Huawei export ban isn’t good for the industry, and a clean resolution addressing both the alleged export violations and espionage concerns is difficult to see.
  • From IMS, diamonds are becoming a PA designer’s best friend, and LDMOS claims the beachhead for sub-6 GHz massive MIMO.
