NDK (Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co. Ltd.) announces the availability of its NT2016SB series, an SMD Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) measuring 2.0 x 1.6 mm with a height of only 0.8mm max., making it one of the smallest and lightest GPS grade TCXOs available in the world.
These oscillators exhibit a very tight frequency stability of ±0.5ppm over the broad operating temperature range of -30 to +85°. They are available in custom frequencies and the standard popular frequencies of (16.367667, 16.368, 16.369, 19.2, 26 and 38.4 MHz). The NT2016SB operates on a low supply voltage range of +1.8 to 2.8 VDC ±0.1 V while drawing just 1.5mA max with a clipped sine output level of 0.8 V (P-P) minimum. The device also features an enable/disable function, which allows the deactivation of the oscillation circuit when operation is unnecessary, delivering reduced power consumption to the system. The NT2016SB is in lead-free packaging that meets the requirements for re-flow profiling using lead-free solder and is RoHS compliant.
Applications include wrist & pocket GPS devices, mobile phones & PDA incorporating GPS functions, in-car navigation, vehicle tracking and emergency road support systems. “GPS is no longer just a stand-alone device; the popularity of this feature has moved into other handheld devices where it is being coupled with many other functions. Designers are being challenged to find solutions to meet these tighter packaging requirements. Not only are smaller timing components required, but they must deliver the tight stability required to lock on to the satellite signal The NT2016SB delivers an 35% size savings when compared to its preceding GPS quality TCXO,” said Mike Walczak, President, NDK America Inc.
Delivery for the NT2016SB series is 12 weeks ARO. Cost for 10,000 pieces of the NT2016SB packaged tape and reel is approximately $1.65 each. Qualified engineering samples may be ordered at no cost.
