Last week’s microwave news included a healthy number of contract and agreement type announcements, but was pretty light with new product releases. Here are some of the announcements:
Micronetics Inc. announced that its New Jersey-based subsidiary, Microwave Concepts, has received $4 M of advanced funding from a major defense OEM for highly integrated microwave subassemblies. These subassemblies are used as part of a complex jamming system. In addition to this advanced funding, full funding of production quantities is expected within 60 days. When fully funded, the anticipated value is over $8 M.
Comtech Telecommunications Corp. announced that its Melville, New York-based subsidiary, Comtech PST Corp., has received $2.5 M of orders for high power amplifiers from a provider of aviation electronics and communication systems.
Ceragon Networks Ltd., a provider of high-capacity wireless backhaul solutions, today announced that its advanced FibeAir® solutions have again been selected for deployment by Digitel Mobile Philippines Inc. (DMPI), a cellular telecommunications provider in the Philippines. This order totaling over $3.5 M, follows several successful deployments of Ceragon’s wireless backhaul solution for DMPI over the past years.
DragonWave Inc., a global supplier of next-generation wireless networks, announced that Sprint has selected DragonWave's IP backhaul solutions for its XOHM-branded WiMAX mobile-broadband services in North America. DragonWave's Horizon Compact and Horizon Duo products will be deployed initially in the Baltimore/Washington and Chicago markets.
CAD Design Software, a supplier of new technology EDA layout tools, and CADParts & Consulting, a provider of PCB design services, announced that CADParts & Consulting has entered into a VAR agreement with CAD Design Software to sell and support CAD Design Software’s line of design and layout tools, with a focus on PCB, RF/microwave, flex, and hybrid/MCM (LTCC) technologies.
Smiths Group, the global technology company, has acquired Triasx Pty Ltd., a wireless communications components manufacturer based in Brisbane, Australia. With a total of approximately 160 employees located in Brisbane and Suzhou, China Triasx posted estimated sales of £12.5 M for the 12-month period that ended on 30 June 2008.
LGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent dedicated to serving the US government community, has announced that the Defense Information System Agency (DISA) has chosen Alcatel-Lucent’s WiMAX wireless broadband technology after a rigorous technical and interoperability analysis under its Tactical Service Providers (TSP) Joint Capabilities Technology Demonstration (JCTD).
Heathrow Airport, London, the world’s busiest international airport, has invested in a state-of-the-art radar system to further improve safety by continuously sweeping its runways for foreign objects and debris (FOD). Supplied by QinetiQ, the Tarsier system is being used to detect FOD on the southern runway at Heathrow following a successful operational trial.
The Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) and the Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) Alliance have announced that the two organizations will work together to enhance the cooperation between commercial development and ongoing research activities. The two industry groups have committed to collaborate to ensure that the dialogue between all stakeholders, including research in the area of future mobile and wireless communication systems will be maintained and intensified. In order to contribute to the advancement of the mobile industry, the organizations will cooperate through exchanging information and views, and will promote their cooperation by regular meetings and by identifying focus areas.

Anritsu Co. announced that the company has developed a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network simulator and that it is now being used by Anritsu beta customers to help in the development of LTE mobile phone networks.
LeCroy Corp., a supplier of oscilloscopes and serial data test solutions, announced the launch of the WavePro 7, the first product series in the new Zi Family of oscilloscopes.
