Akoustis Technologies, Inc., an integrated device manufacturer of patented bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications, announced that it has received three new Wi-Fi 6E design wins for carrier-class applications.
Two design wins are for a leading European carrier-class Wi-Fi OEM that will be using the Akoustis 5.5 and 6.5 GHz standard XBAW® coexistence filter solutions, as well as the 5.6 and 6.6 GHz standard XBAW® coexistence filter solutions that allows for greater usage of the U-NII 4 band. The first Wi-Fi 6E router is expected to ramp production by the end of calendar 2022 and the second router is expected to begin ramping by the end of the March 2023 quarter. The third design win is for a global network communication solutions provider that will be using the Akoustis 5.6 and 6.6 GHz standard XBAW® coexistence solutions to sell a Wi-Fi 6E extender to its carrier partner, with a production ramp expected by August of calendar 2023.
Dave Aichele, executive vice president of business development at Akoustis, stated, “We are expanding the number of new customers in high frequency, advanced Wi-Fi systems with consumer, enterprise and now carrier-class design wins.” Aichele continued, “The interest in our portfolio of next-generation Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices that offer superior performance in chip-scale packages continues to grow and we expect numerous additional design wins in the coming months.”
Earlier in October, Akoustis announced new next generation Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 filter solutions designed to meet the stringent rejection requirements enabling coexistence with the U-NII 1 to 3 and U-NII 5 to 8 frequency bands. They offer what Akoustis believes is the best out-of-band rejection capability available today, and at a significantly reduced size given Akoustis’ new chip-scale packages manufactured in its upstate New York semiconductor chip fabrication facility.
Akoustis is currently ramping commercial production and is investing to achieve annual production capacity of approximately 500 million units. Akoustis is actively delivering volume production of its Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E tandem filter solutions, shipping multiple 5G small cell XBAW® filter solutions and delivering initial designs of its new 5G mobile filter solutions to multiple customers. To date, Akoustis has received more than 20 customer design wins for its patented XBAW® filter solutions.
