Otava, Inc, a start-up company with wideband millimeter wave ICs and subsystems for 5G, defense, and satellite communication applications located in Moorestown, NJ, has announced that Dr. Michael Griffin and Dr. Lisa Porter have joined the company as Strategic Advisors.

Dr. Michael D. Griffin was the Former Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.  He was the Department’s Chief Technology Officer, and was responsible for the research, development, and prototyping activities across the DoD enterprise and was mandated with ensuring technological superiority for the Department of Defense.  He oversaw the activities of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Missile Defense Agency, the Defense Innovation Unit, the DoD Laboratory enterprise, and the Under Secretariate staff focused on developing advanced technology and capability for the U.S. military.

Dr. Lisa Porter was the Former Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (DUSD(R&E)), and with the USD(R&E), was responsible for the research, development, and prototyping activities across the DoD enterprise. She was the founding Director of IARPA, and former Executive President of In-Q-Tel.  She also established and led the DoD 5G initiative.

Otava’s first Beamformer integrated circuit, OTBF103, was released late last year and now provides end users with a single chip solution for all their spectrum needs. The Beamformer provides frequency coverage from 24 to 40 GHz, encompassing the n257, n258, n260, and n261 millimeter wave 5G new radio bands, in addition to coverage for satellite communications and Department of Defense applications. By employing the same Beamformer device in multiple products and systems, customers can reduce both capital expenditure and the engineering time required to integrate the component into the phased array system. To enable new designs on this chip to be completed even faster, Avnet has launched a supporting Beamformer evaluation board and kit.

“We are truly honored that Drs. Griffin and Porter are part of the Otava, Inc team. “ said Victoria Pereira, CEO & President, Co-Founder of Otava, Inc. “Their appointments show what we are doing at Otava is not only groundbreaking but also delivers a strong confirmation of the importance of the air to electrical interface to US spectrum dominance going forward.”
