Adding to its capabilities in ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for mobile, Qorvo® has acquired Paris-based 7Hugs Labs, a software provider for UWB applications, for $48.7 million. Qorvo sees UWB enabling new location and communication services based in the smartphone.

“7Hugs Labs’ proven software and software stack complement our UWB chipset offering and will help enable a host of new UWB applications in mobile, IoT and automotive markets,” said Eric Creviston, president of Qorvo’s mobile products business.

He said 7Hugs Labs has the software talent and expertise to help Qorvo capitalize on the unique precision location capabilities of UWB. The 7Hugs Labs team will create complete UWB solutions, including chips, firmware and software.

7Hugs Labs was founded in 2014 and has been a software partner for Decawave, which Qorvo acquired for $373 million in February 2020. This latest acquisition adds 7Hugs’ 35 staff members to Qorvo’s UWB business unit within its mobile products business.

Simon Tchedikian, the CEO and co-founder of 7Hugs Labs, said, “Now, as part of Qorvo, we look forward to playing a larger role in helping the industry grow, expediting the integration of UWB in ways that will truly transform our daily interactions with technologies.”
