Movandi announced it has raised $27 million in a series C funding round, led by WRVI Capital, with Cota Capital and DNX Ventures contributing.

The funding will enable Movandi to ramp and expand its active router/repeater platform, RF front-end and open radio access network (ORAN) radio units. Movandi will grow its staff in Irvine, California and Australia to continue developing its ICs, antennas, systems and algorithms.

Movandi plans its technology to be deployed by the world’s top wireless operators this year.

“Today’s commercial 5G mmWave deployments face a myriad of technical challenges. We are seeing a continued, significant operator investment in commercial deployments and high frequency mmWave that represents a major opportunity for Movandi’s 5G deployments,” said Sriram Viswanathan, a founding managing partner at WRVI Capital.

Movandi’s 5G mmWave solutions include the 5G BeamXR active routers/repeaters and the BeamX RF front-end, which can be used for fixed wireless equipment, mobile devices, small cells and ORAN radios. The company’s objective is to ensure mmWave technology can be broadly deployed by operators in the “real world” and says its repeaters provide compelling cost savings, reducing both capital and operating expenses for 5G operators.

Maryam Rofougaran, CEO and co-founder of Movandi, said, “We’re at an exciting inflection point in 5G mmWave operator deployments, we’re both scaling our active router platform and RF front-end deployments. We are working closely with 5G operators and system OEMs solving these 5G coverage challenges.”

Movandi been recognized by the Global Semiconductor Alliance, CNBC and Fast Company as one of the most disruptive technologies in 5G mmWave.
