Qorvo® has joined the China Mobile 5G Innovation Center, an alliance created to develop 5G solutions for China, the world’s largest wireless communications market. According to the company, Qorvo is the first RF supplier to join the alliance.

The innovation center is promoting industry collaboration on 5G development and the migration from 4G, including use cases such as self-driving cars, the Internet of Things (IoT) and virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR).

The center launched during the 2016 Mobile World Congress, in February 2016. In addition to China Mobile, the initial participants were Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm, Datang, Intel, Keysight Technologies, Beijing Shougang Automation Information Technology Co., Haier and Hisense. Rohde & Schwarz joined in March.

Qorvo’s membership complements the company’s other 5G initiatives: serving as a delegate to 3GPP, to help define 5G standards, and contributing to more than twenty 5G field trials with global wireless infrastructure companies. Qorvo is well positioned to play in 5G. The company is a leading supplier of RF front-end components for handsets and serves the cellular infrastructure market with small-signal and GaN power amplifier components. Qorvo’s technology addresses the full wireless spectrum, from 600 MHz to over 80 GHz.

Eric Creviston, president of Qorvo’s mobile products business, said, “This is a unique opportunity to engage with the world’s largest mobile operator and its ecosystem partners. By participating in development at the center’s open labs and in field trials, our goal is to accelerate the creation and delivery of market-leading 5G solutions.”
