Keysight Technologies Inc. outlined its commitment to the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) Initiative (www.us-ignite.org/wireless), an industry consortium led by US Ignite and focused on creation of four, city-scale testing platforms. Keysight also confirmed its participation as a member of the PAWR board. As announced by the White House on July 15, PAWR is part of the Advanced Wireless Research Initiative (www.nsf.gov/cise/advancedwireless), which is led by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

“In the race to 2020, our people and products are ready to help the consortium innovate across new and existing technologies as it transforms ideas into reality,” said Ron Nersesian, Keysight president and CEO. “We’re proud to play an active role in accelerating the commercialization of the super-fast, ultra-low latency, high-capacity 5G networks that will enable breakthrough applications for consumers and businesses.”

Keysight is the leading provider of simulation and measurement solutions for the digital, RF, microwave and millimeter-wave technologies used in current and future wireless systems. Since the earliest days of 5G development, the company has helped researchers in government and academia explore groundbreaking concepts with greater precision and deeper confidence.

“For researchers, being first and best in 5G depends on innovative tools that enable them to thoroughly explore new signals, scenarios and topologies,” said Dr. Mark Pierpoint, vice president and general manager, Internet Infrastructure Solutions Group, and Keysight representative on the PAWR board. “5G and the Internet of Things are still moving targets, and our solutions will enable researchers to achieve deeper insights as the standard evolves.”

The in-kind portion of Keysight’s contribution includes the participation of technology experts who will provide consulting and testing assistance. Keysight is also incorporating its unmatched range of current- and next-generation solutions, which are based on flexible test and measurement hardware and powerful software used in the design, simulation and analysis of 5G products. One key example is the SystemVue baseband exploration library for 5G, which enables exploration and understanding of physical-layer alternatives for air interfaces. Reference solutions built with Keysight hardware, software and expertise address specific applications—such as 5G channel sounding at mmWave frequencies, 5G waveform generation and analysis, massive MIMO and beamforming. Total solutions for high-speed digital design and test will enable developers to push 5G performance goals forward with capabilities that range from simulation to compliance testing.
