Munich, April 3, 2008 — From April 14 to 17, 2008, Rohde & Schwarz will present its latest transmitter and test solutions at the NAB broadcasting trade fair in Las Vegas. One highlight will be the R&S Nx8300 family of medium-power transmitters featuring extremely high efficiency for saving energy. This product will be exhibited in a special outdoor model, ideal for the fast setup of networks for mobile TV. A brand-new test and measurement product will be the R&S DVSG digital video signal generator, which enables users to perform comprehensive tests on TV displays during development and production. The innovative solutions from the company known for its transmitter and test equipment can be found at booth C1933 in the central hall. Together with its partners, Rohde & Schwarz will dedicate booth C1539 to the A-VSB standard – a new mobile TV solution for ATSC. Rohde & Schwarz is playing a major role in the development of this standard.

The company's product portfolio supports the world's most common digital broadcasting standards. These include ATSC, DVB-T/-H, DMB-TH, MediaFLO™, DMB-T, T-DMB, DAB as well as ISDB-T. Completely new here for the TV transmitters from Rohde & Schwarz is also the Brazilian digital broadcasting standard ISDB-TB.

The air-cooled R&S Nx8300 medium-power transmitters will be presented for the first time. The digital output power in accordance with the individual standard may be as high as 1.8 kW in only one rack. The medium-power transmitters are designed around the new energy efficiency concept from Rohde & Schwarz. This means significantly lower operating costs than with other products currently available on the market. Through new amplifier technology and optimized cooling, energy consumption has been reduced by up to 15 %. The compact design also reduces space costs.

For the medium-power transmitter family, the R&S NV8303VO outdoor solution has also been designed. Here, the transmitter components have been integrated into a compact weather- and temperature-proof box. A redundant climate control system that heats or cools the transmitter makes it particularly fail-safe. The transmitter is largely independent of the local infrastructure, which means that it may be used in highly inaccessible areas. It can be installed quickly, thus making it particularly useful for the setup of new mobile TV or pilot-trial networks. Moreover, the R&S NV8303VO closes gaps in coverage at minimum outlay.

From its test and measurement solutions, Rohde & Schwarz will showcase a new video signal generator – the R&S DVSG. The instrument offers the widest variety of interfaces and test signals currently available in only one instrument. The R&S DVSG thus covers all required test cases in the development and production of TV displays. It generates uncompressed video and audio signals and – as a universal platform – also supports the recording and playing of MPEG-2 transport streams. The instrument truly stands out owing to its extremely favorable price/performance ratio. By adding the R&S DVSG, Rohde & Schwarz is steadily expanding its portfolio for the development and production of broadcasting terminal equipment. This step makes the company a reliable partner in this area as well.

The R&S ETL TV analyzer from Rohde & Schwarz now features new options for MPEG-2 transport streams. The instrument thus combines the functions of an RF TV analyzer, an MPEG-2 analyzer and a spectrum analyzer, transforming it into a universal test platform. This enables network operators to perform all required measurements on TV transmitters as well as cable headends – both when setting up systems and placing them into operation as well as when performing service or maintenance. In the production of TV transmitters or modulators, the R&S ETL is the ideal solution for quality assurance. It supports ATSC, DVB-T/-H, DTMB, DAB and DVB-C as well as the most common analog TV standards.

Additional innovations and enhancements for the trustworthy Rohde & Schwarz test platforms will also be on exhibit at the company booth. A press breakfast for introducing the new products will be held at 9:00 a.m. on April 14, 2008, at the Rohde & Schwarz booth (number C1933) in the central hall.
