Power Integrity Analysis of a Smartphone Motherboard

March 15, 2023

Power integrity simulation includes the following:

  • DC analysis, showing that power levels are in the limits
  • AC analysis, showing that net impedance behavior is reasonable on higher frequencies.

As the top picture shows, there are two high-impedance spots where resonances appear that are problematic. The resonances can be removed by adding extra decoupling capacitors in problematic areas. Their placement should be optimized in order to avoid creating additional resonances.
