Ericsson has signed an agreement with Türk Telekom to provide microwave transmission for its high performance broadband service. The agreement is a full turnkey project for the supply and implementation of more than 1200 units of the company’s MINI-LINK radio systems, along with training and support activities. This will help the operator to meet demand for voice and data services at low cost and with increased network control.
This solution offers the possibility of providing microwave transmission at 500 different locations in Turkey — 400 in rural areas and 100 locations complementary to the long distance Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) microwave systems. One of the key targets of the project is to provide transmission for high performance broadband connections, especially in rural areas. The agreement, over two years, will bring the number of MINI-LINK radio systems in Türk Telekom's network to more than 3000.
Jan Kemvall, president Ericsson turkey, claimed that the MINI-LINK portfolio is the most reliable and cost-efficient system when rolling out broadband connections in rural areas. Therefore, he commented, "With this agreement, we strengthen our position as a wireline supplier in Türk Telekom's network.”
