Raytheon Co. has been awarded a $151.3 M contract from the US Army Aviation and Missile Command to provide engineering services support to the Patriot air and missile defense program. The award to Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) provides funding for the first of four, one-year options, to last year’s base award for which IDS will provide engineering services in support of Patriot air and missile defense systems. Engineering support includes system and software engineering, hardware engineering, testing, logistic support and program management. In particular, the contract funds the integration of several hardware and software improvements developed by separately funded programs. Patriot is the corner stone of the US Army’s integrated air defense systems. It provides long-range, all-weather, air defense capability to counter tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and aircraft. As the prime contractor for the Patriot air and missile defense, IDS works to assure that both the US and its international customers possess an air and missile defense capability against all threats well into this century. The contract also calls for engineering services tasks to be performed in support of foreign military customers associated with the Patriot program. Work will be performed at Raytheon’s Integrated Air Defense Centers in Andover, MA and Huntsville, AL; its Missile Defense Centers in Woburn, MA; its headquarters in Tewksbury, MA; and additional Raytheon facilities in Bedford and Burlington, MA, El Paso, TX, and Saudi Arabia. Raytheon is the prime contractor for the Patriot system and the system integrator for the Configuration 3 system that includes the PAC-3 missile. As the system integrator, Raytheon ensures that all Patriot system components provide the war fighter a reliable and highly lethal capability to defeat the threats in current and future combat environments.
