Using Calibration to Optimize Performance in Crucial Measurements
Comtech Telecommunications Corp. announced that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., received a $1.5 M order for satellite communications equipment. The equipment will be deployed to support the satellite-based communications infrastructure of a US government agency.
Included in the order are Comtech EF Data's CDM-600L and CDM-710 satellite modems with industry-leading, bandwidth-efficient technologies. The CDM-600L features the industry's most bandwidth-efficient forward error correction (FEC), low density parity check (LDPC). When used in networks with lower FEC coding rates and higher data rates, the power and bandwidth savings offered by LDPC are most apparent. In conjunction with LDPC is 8-QAM modulation, which exhibits far superior performance compared with conventional 8-PSK. When LDPC and 8-QAM are combined, satellite transponder utilization can be maximized.
The CDM-710 satellite modems are standards-based, supporting the evolving Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) standard DVB-S2. A primary advantage of DVB-S2 is the potential for increased bandwidth utilization. This can be achieved through a broad range of modulation and coding formats, permitting users to tailor links for the available bandwidth and power to optimize link performance.
