Inert Corporation has developed a lineup of modular Powder Filtration Systems for additive manufacturing, or 3D Printing, and other manufacturing cells that require collection and disposal of particles and particulate that may be reactive, corrosive or otherwise require special and costly handling.

The cornerstone of the modular system is their PF-1, PF-2 and PF-3, Powder Filtration units. Model PF-1 is excellent for removing the soot which is a common byproduct of 3D printers. The PF-2 offers a higher maximum flow rate for larger volume industrial lines and the PF-3 is ready for extremely hot processes with the addition of a high temperature ceramic filter.

Inert Powder Filtration (PF) units can be purchased stand-alone and are easily retrofitted in the field to any in-house 3D printing or welding enclosure. If desired, customers can also choose a completely integrated Inert PowderShield™ System which includes a standard or custom tailored hermetic glovebox enclosure, and an Inert/Siemens PLC controlled Argon Management System. These closed-loop stations maintain an atmosphere of < 1 ppm O2 and H2O during operation and provide for safe, hands-off procedures, optimal powder capture and recycling and easy particulate (or soot) disposal.

Safety features include a quad HEPA filter cluster to collect reactive powders, water passivation of particulate for easy disposal, isolation valves and an electrically grounded design that prevents static electricity buildup which could lead to ignition of particles. Other features include an easily accessible lockable cabinet, stainless steel piping, 60 CFM blower and a magnehelic gauge which displays pressure and indicates when filters need replacement.

As additive manufacturing continues its pervasiveness in manufacturing and research, and requirements for higher level process, safety, quality and cost controls are put in place, look for advanced particle filtration systems like these from Inert to become routine fixtures in facilities around the world.
