Amoi Electronics Selects RFMD's POLARIS(TM) 2 Total Radio Module For EDGE

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 2006--RF Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: RFMD), a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance radio systems and solutions for applications that drive mobile communications, today announced that it has commenced volume production shipments of its POLARIS(TM) 2 Total Radio Module for EDGE for GSM/GPRS/EDGE handsets to Amoi Electronics Company Limited, a leading handset manufacturer in China. The POLARIS 2 Radio Module for EDGE will be used in several models across Amoi's product portfolio, including devices running Windows Mobile(TM) software that target the growing worldwide market for smartphones. "The combination of RFMD's market-leading EDGE transceiver architecture and proven levels of integration has allowed us to achieve a compelling form factor and offer superior performance," said Hongquan Xie, General Manager of Amoi Mobile. The POLARIS 2 Radio Module for EDGE is the smallest EDGE radio solution commercially available and requires less than half the number of discrete components required by competitive EDGE radio solutions. Additionally, the production-proven large signal polar modulation transmit architecture minimizes transmit current consumption in today's EDGE handsets and provides a technology migration path up to approximately 50% transmit power consumption savings over competing linear transmit radio architectures.
