Symmetricom® Inc., a leader in precise time and frequency technologies, announced that it has partnered with Wintegra to deliver a cost-effective, high-performance, versatile and power-efficient reference design for customers requiring IEEE 1588 (Precision Time Protocol) compliant products. The reference design combines Symmetricom’s SCi 2000 Embedded Software Clock with Wintegra’s WinPath3 platform. This combination enables customers to implement IEEE 1588 in wireless base stations and other network elements in an affordable, portable manner without the need for dedicated silicon.

“With Symmetricom’s high-performance, software synchronization technology now available on Wintegra’s leading WinPath3 platform, our macro, micro and pico base station customers and network equipment manufacturers (NEM) can now take advantage of a highly-versatile, high-performance, low-power and cost-efficient PTP solution,” said Robert O’Dell, EVP of Marketing and Sales at Wintegra. “We are excited to bring this reference design to market as Wintegra and Symmetricom serve common applications with complementary products. This integrated offering delivers excellent results and has already been well received by customers.”

“Wireless and network synchronization requirements are becoming more precise with the deployment of 4G wireless technologies. At the same time, NEMs are challenged with the trends toward achieving their designs with lower power, less board space and less cost,” said Manish Gupta, Vice President of Marketing at Symmetricom. “With the combination of Symmetricom’s SCi 2000 Embedded Software Clock and Wintegra’s technology, NEMs can realize their optimal design goals without requiring dedicated silicon.”
