Smiths Interconnect extends its broad range of coaxial coupler components in UHF to Ku-Band.

Smiths Interconnect’s comprehensive range of coaxial coupler components are designed for mission critical applications including GEO/MEO and LEO payloads, launch systems and deep space mission management. Several products of this offering are also used in ground, airborne and naval defence applications.

Designed to provide optimal performance in assigned frequencies ranging from UHF to Ku-Band, Smiths Interconnect’s coaxial couplers are tested to customer specifications and are space qualified, using the company’s Qualification and Test laboratory in Dundee, Scotland. Space qualification testing routinely includes thermal shock and cycling, sine/random vibration, mechanical shock and, where appropriate, continuous waveform and peak power under TVAC, critical power and seeded multipaction. Summary and qualification data reports are available to prospective customers.

“Users around the world recognise Smiths Interconnect’s experience gained through decades of participation in prestigious space missions.” said Tullio Panarello, vice president and general manager of the fibre optics and RF components business unit at Smiths Interconnect. “As experts in our field, we work with our customers to ensure that each of our products operates as specified and needed. Each of our couplers has been engineered to meet a specific set of requirements and is rigorously tested and qualified,” he added.

Smiths Interconnect’s coaxial coupler components offer:

  • Optimised electrical performance
  • Environmentally robust EMC shielding
  • Connectors selected based on operating frequency and RF power
  • Internal terminations and resistors analysed to maintain reliability under fault conditions
  • Sample data and test reports available to assist the design and qualification process.
