Alcatel-Lucent has provided TIM (Telecom Italia Group's unique brand) with a microwave link that will ensure continuous ultra-broadband connectivity between the Sicilian islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa.
With many natural and historic landmarks, Pantelleria and Lampedusa are popular tourist destinations. The microwave link, which has been deployed using Alcatel-Lucent’s 9500 Microwave Packet Radio platform, will strengthen the reliability of telephony and ultra-broadband access for both residents and visitors to the islands. For the project Alcatel-Lucent has deployed a 147 km high capacity (800 Mbit/s), high-availability radio link – supporting a mix of IP and legacy traffic between the two islands.
