Experts from leading 5G research institutions at King’s College London and the Universities of Surrey and Bristol, will be awarded £16M to develop the cutting-edge 5G test network.

Nokia Bell Labs demonstrated that a commercial passive optical network can transport ultra-low latency data streams between a centralized baseband and cell site. The demonstration shows that existing fiber networks can be used to cost-effectively transport mobile traffic, which will help accelerate deployment of 5G networks.

GenXComm closed a fully-subscribed round of seed financing, with investments from the UT Horizon Fund and other investors. GenXComm says their "robust, simultaneous, self-interference cancellation (S-SIX) technology unleashes the full potential of the spectrum used for today’s 5G mobile, Wi-Fi and cable networks by allowing channels to be stacked one next to the other with no empty spectrum between them."

Anritsu Company introduces the Signal Analyzer MS2850A that can cost efficiently and accurately evaluate 5G signals with the 800 MHz modulation bandwidth (8 x 100 MHz channels) associated with 5G designs. With analysis bandwidth up to 1 GHz, excellent dynamic range and high flatness performance, the MS2850A provides wireless equipment manufacturers and mobile operators with a comprehensive and affordable tool.

The U.S. Commerce Department’s NIST awarded $2.3 million over three years to the NYU WIRELESS research center at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, which will work with Italy’s University of Padova (UNIPD), the Austin Fire Department and NYU WIRELESS industrial affiliates to create a research platform for public safety communications.
