DARMSTADT, Germany, 9 October 2007, Computer Simulation Technology (CST) announces further acceleration boost for the upcoming version 2008 of its market and technology leading Time Domain solver within CST MICROWAVE STUDIO® (CST MWS) through Acceleware’s new ClusterInABox™ D30. RF design engineers involved in the electromagnetic design and optimization of complex or electrically larger passive components, as well as those interested in signal integrity or electromagnetic compatibility effects, can now take advantage of the performance gained by the combination of the simulation accuracy of CST’s proprietary Perfect Boundary Approximation (PBA)® and Acceleware’s new ClusterInABox™ D30. Simulation Performance Numerical solutions to Maxwell’s equations vary greatly. The performance of these solvers can be judged best by comparing the time required to reach a predefined level of simulation accuracy. By combining CST’s highly efficient PBA method with the latest in hardware optimisation, CST’s Time Domain solver can outperform standard FDTD by orders of magnitude. Engineers using the D30 can expect a simulation speed-up of up to a factor 12, in comparison to the already efficient CST MWS implementation on a state-of-the-art dual CPU dual core PC. When compared to the Accelerator A30, the D30 comes into its own as soon as a problem’s size exceeds 10 million mesh nodes. The maximum model size of realistic 3D models that can be tackled with the D30 is about 50 million mesh nodes. Comparisons with standard FDTD methods have shown that CST’s PBA effectively reduces the number of mesh nodes necessary for a simulation. This means that in order to reach a similar level of accuracy, an FDTD model can easily exceed 1 billion mesh nodes, a factor 20 more than the PBA model. "Accelerating a slow solver will make it less slow, but never fast. On the other hand, accelerating the fastest available Time Domain solver by a factor 12 can provide an enormous advantage when addressing very complex models, such as complete handsets, cars, or complex boards," commented Dr. Peter Thoma, Managing Director, R&D, CST. Availability Acceleware Accelerator 30 and ClusterInABox® D30 are available from CST for usage with the transient solver CST MICROWAVE STUDIO® 2008.
