Title: Online Panel: What is the Best Beamsteering Antenna Array and Repeater Technologies for 5G mmWave?

Date: February 15, 2023

Time: 8am PT / 11am ET

Sponsored by: Anokiwave, Keysight Technologies and Analog Devices

This panel will discuss the various RF architectures and antenna technologies being developed to produce and test low-cost mmWave beam steering arrays for 5G applications including fixed wireless access and cellular repeaters. Panelists will debate and discuss the best architectures, semiconductor platforms and antenna solutions including performance achieved by their products and partners to date in the market.

Moderator: Eric Higham, Technical Editor, Microwave Journal®
Panelist: Pete Moosbrugger, VP of Advanced Antenna Technology, Anokiwave
Panelist: Murthy Upmaka Ph.D., Senior Applications Engineer, Keysight Technologies
Panelist: John Kilpatrick, Senior Principal Engineer, Analog Devices

Panel Participant Bios:

Moderator – Microwave Journal®

Eric Higham, Technical Editor

Eric previously worked as Director of the Advanced Semiconductor Applications and the Advanced Defense Systems Services at Strategy Analytics. He is an industry veteran with more than 40 years of semiconductor experience. Previously, he performed a variety of engineering, business development, marketing and management functions for M/A-COM, MicroDynamics and Raytheon. Eric holds an MSEE degree from Northeastern University and a BSEE degree from Cornell University.

Anokiwave

Pete Moosbrugger, VP of Advanced Antenna Technology

Pete Moosbrugger joined Anokiwave in August 2019 as the VP of Advanced Antenna Technology and is responsible for managing the antenna team, the antenna technology roadmaps, and supporting key customers activities.

Prior to joining Anokiwave, Pete was the Chief Technologist for the Phased Array mission area at Ball Aerospace, where he worked for more than 21 years developing phased array technology for the US government and commercial markets. He holds numerous patents, has written technical articles for more than ten publications, and has spoken on numerous panels discussing commercial satellite communications and 5G topics.

Pete earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University.

Keysight Technologies

Murthy Upmaka Ph.D., Senior Applications Engineer

Murthy has been with Keysight Technologies for the past 20 years. He has a Ph.D. in Physics and has published several papers in international journals. In his current role, Murthy enjoys working with various design engineers helping them design RF/MW circuits and systems using Keysight’s design software tools. Currently, he is focused on the aerospace defense sector and specifically on end-to-end system design flows.

Analog Devices

John Kilpatrick, Senior Principal Engineer, SW Systems

John Kilpatrick has over 30 years of experience in various areas of wireless communications. Kilpatrick joined Analog Devices in 2010 (as part of Hittite Microwave). He is currently leading the systems engineering efforts for ADI’s commercial microwave and mmWave products, including 5G phased array chipsets for both 28 and 39 GHz network infrastructure, and low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite terminal chipsets for both Ku- and Ka-bands. Previously he helped with the designs of upconverter and downconverter chips for Ka-band GEO satellite terminals, and a 60 GHz transmitter and receiver chipset for small cell backhaul. He received his BA in applied mathematics from Gordon College and MS in systems engineering from UMass Lowell.
