Title: Design of Integrated Phased-Array Antenna Systems for 5G CPE Applications

This presentation explores recent developments in mmWave technology from the perspective of EM simulation, in-situ circuit simulation, phased-array synthesis, and RF PCB design. The system requirements that drive antenna/front-end architectural decisions for mmWave applications, antenna optimization, and array configuration and generation will be discussed. In addition to antenna/antenna array design and simulation considerations, this talk will examine how the array can be integrated with the front-end beamsteering electronics through RF routing and simulated along with the front-end circuitry and feed network before transferring over to the PCB layout editor. Attendees will learn how best-in-class RF design, manufacturing, and EM/thermal system signoff combine to support PCB-based array development and integration with the IC through the PCB system level from within a comprehensive front-to-back workflow from Cadence. Multiple design examples will be presented.

Presenter Bios:

David Vye is a senior product marketing manager for the AWR products at Cadence, where he helps drive product direction and customer engagements as they relate to RF and microwave component and system design. Mr. Vye has held product and technical marketing positions at Cadence AWR, Ansys and Ansoft. He was the editor and biz dev manager at Microwave Journal from 2007 to 2014. Prior to moving over to technical marketing. He was a Sr MMIC designer and research scientist at Raytheon and MACOM.

Andy is an electronics designer and manager offering over 15 years of wide experience and achievement in analog and digital electronics, with particular emphasis on Microwave & RF products. At Cadence, he provides guidance and assistance with AWR's EDA software in modelling their advanced Microwave & RF circuit and system designs. Prior to joining AWR, he held various engineering and managerial positions at Sedona International, DTC Cobham Surveillance, Tektron Microelectronics, and the Center for Conservation Research & Technology. Mr. Hughes is a 1984 graduate from the University of Leeds with a BSc Hons degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
