Title: Online Panel: Microwave Technology Enabling Quantum Technology

This panel will review and discuss the microwave technologies contributing to Quantum Technologies such as Quantum Communications and Quantum Computing. They will review the measurement and component technologies that are critical to the operation of these systems and the performance needed to meet the needs of these challenging platforms plus covers the basics of each technology.

Pat Hindle, Editorial Director

Pat Hindle is Editorial Director for Microwave Journal® and has been with the magazine for 12 years. He parlayed his process engineering background into a management role in marketing communications for several leading microwave semiconductor manufacturers including MACOM, Raytheon and Skyworks (Alpha Industries), in addition to working at MIT Nanostructures Laboratory manufacturing X-ray diffraction gratings for space research telescopes like Chandra. He has a B.S. in Materials Science Engineering from Cornell University and MBA from Northeastern University. In his current role as MWJ Editorial Director, he is responsible for setting MWJ’s editorial direction and developing marketing opportunities for industry clients. He has been the conference manager for EDI CON China and helped launch Signal Integrity™ Journal plus co-hosts the Frequency Matters videos and podcasts.

Holzworth

Joe Koebel, VP Business Development

BSEE from Michigan Technological University with an emphasis on electromagnetics and communications theory. Past professional experience includes working for Hughes Space & Communications (now Boeing Satellite Systems), Picosecond Pulse Labs, and co-founder of Holzworth Instrumentation.

Keysight Technologies

Elizabeth Ruetsch, General Manager, Quantum Engineering Solutions (QES)

Liz is currently the General Manager of Keysight’s Quantum Engineering Solutions (QES) focused on Quantum Computing, Quantum Sensing, and Quantum Communications markets. She is responsible for integrating two acquisitions into the quantum team: Labber and Quantum Benchmark.

In her 27 years of experience, Liz has worked in a variety of Keysight businesses including: Director of WW Sales, Services, and Support of the EEsof EDA Software Division based in Santa Rosa, CA; Marketing Manager of the Oscilloscope and Protocol Division based in Colorado Springs, CO; Marketing Manager of the China Communications Operation based in Beijing, China; China Field Marketing Manager based in Beijing, China; WW Sales Manager, Applications Planning Manager, Applications Marketing Manager, and Custom Solutions Integration Manager for the Microwave and Communications Division based in Santa Rosa, CA.

Liz holds a BSEE from Rutgers University and an MBA from the Boston University Executive MBA Program. Her work has been recognized with both internal and external awards including the Agilent CEO Innovation Award (2009), SWE Global Leadership Award (2017), and the North Bay Women in Business Award (2019). Liz is also active in many volunteer efforts – most recently serving as the executive sponsor for the Women in Quantum mentoring program.

XMA Corporation

Marc Smith, Partner and President/CEO

Marc Smith is a Partner and President/CEO for XMA Corporation, an International Corporation with locations in Manchester New Hampshire and abroad. His responsibilities include advanced corporate investment strategy for product development and manufacturing within Millimeter wave and Microwave technologies, with primary concentration in Cryogenic and Space applications.

XMA hosts extensive Quantum Computing knowledge, primarily in the advancement of RF products, Intellectual Property, and long-term investment strategies focused on Cryogenic applications. Our goal is to advance the commercial development of Milli-Kelvin Cryogenic products, at the private sector, directly aligning with QED-C and the advancement of Quantum Computing efforts within the private/corporate sector.

Prior to XMA, Mr. Smith maintained several key executive positions, namely Gentex Corporation as Vice President for Gentex Corporation specializing in Acoustic waveform development, and Loral Telemetry and Space Systems (L3) a leader in space telemetry acquisition. As a civic contributor, he served as Board Member and Vice Chairman of the New Hampshire High Tech Council and was appointed to a Regional Steering Board position with EPSCOR, a New England chapter aligned with NIST. On the personal side, Marc received his degree from the University of New York, with focus areas including Law, Business Administration, and Engineering Management. Key fields of interest included Corporate Structure, Business Law, community service and various science related efforts with STEM.

Marc is married to his wife Susie with their son Ryan, with personal interests in raising Event horses at their horse farm in Pittsfield NH, as well as other various civic and outdoor activities.

APITech

Egor Alekseev, Product Line Manager, Powerfilm

Egor Alekseev has worked at APITech for over 20 years, starting with its Inmet brand as Design Engineer for high-power attenuators and later as Engineering Manager for all passive coaxial products. Beginning in 2011, Egor became involved with APITech’s Powerfilm brand surface-mount passive products (formerly KDI resistor), first in Technology and Design and then as Product Line leader. Egor has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with specialization in solid-state electronics and semiconductor technology from the University of Michigan, and a Material Science degree from St. Petersburg Polytechnic.
